167% UGV Market growth? Really?

Wintergreen Research predicts “Markets at $4.5 billion in 2013 reach $12.0 billion by 2019.” Is this too good to be true? Click on this month’s Executive Briefing and find out.

For years, people have been experimenting with smartphones to control unmanned systems. However, some Australian students have taken the concept a bit further and integrated the phone’s GPS and camera into the vehicle’s sensor package. See video below.

If you built a UGV that was supposed to last only 3 months in a hostile environment, but instead it’s still going after 9 years, wouldn’t you be totally stoked about it? Well, that’s how the folks at NASA feel about Opportunity Rover, which recently celebrated a major milestone.

Finally, we take a look at some interesting photos of UGVs that were used all the way back in 1986 at the Chernobyl disaster.

See you at ATF & AUVSI!
